Laundry Room
July 2021
The family needed an update on an outdated and cluttered laundry room. The room is a very small (5'6" x 9'3") breezeway from the garage to the kitchen and consists of one wall that houses the front loading washer and dryer and three open shelves. The opposite wall sits 24" deep and had been originally designed to hold a coat closet.
The majority style of the house is traditional farmhouse with white walls and clean lines and I wanted to bring this design into the laundry room so it had a cohesive look with the rest of the home and the design would flow into the kitchen. Needs for this room are better organization, coat storage, a place to hang keys, and a better solution to lifting large and heavy laundry detergent bottles over the washer. An addition of a few décor items would soften the look of this utilitarian room.

Project Blog:
This project started with painting both the walls and wood shelf supports in Dutch Boy Super White paint in a flat finish. Floor trim was painted in Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace in a semi-gloss finish. The existing wood shelves were replaced with Rustic laminate shelves (trimmed to fit). To add additional storage space and to give the washer and dryer a clean line, a countertop was added. For a solution to the coat and storage problem in this room, a wardrobe was added on the opposite wall in the inset niche. The wardrobe holds coats and storage containers and frees up space on the shelves on the other side of the wall. To give the wardrobe a bit of height and some additional color and texture, large fabric storage containers with leather pulls and a plant in a natural color wicker basket were added to the top of the wardrobe. A fun tropical decal was added to the doors to bring in an additional color and help break up the white wardrobe on the white wall. On the shelves on the other side of the room, the existing storage was edited, but with the additional space in the wardrobe, no storage was lost. Two medium round wire baskets were added on the top shelf to hold bulk paper towels. To solve the problem of lifting big and heavy laundry detergent and fabric softener bottles off the shelf over the new countertop, two glass half-gallon bottles with vinyl waterproof labels were purchased and placed in a galvanized tray with wood handles in case of spills. Wool laundry balls are stored in a round wicker basket on the countertop over the washer and dryer. More color and texture were added through the addition of a ceramic vase with eucalyptus leaves to the top open shelf and a white galvanized milk jug with wildflowers was placed on the countertop. On the walls, artwork in blues and creams were added to highlight the blue of the washer and dryer. A handmade key holder was purchased to store keys and a lastly, a textured 3' x 5' rug brought the room together.
Stores shopped at for this reimagination were Menards (paint, shelves, and supplies), Do it Best (paint), IKEA (tabletop counter and wardrobe), Target (plants, wire storage baskets, art work), Amazon (fabric and wicker storage baskets, tray, decals, and glass bottles), Marshalls/TJ MAXX (plastic storage containers, artwork), Michaels (flowers, milk jug), and Etsy (key storage).
Powder Room
June 2021
A fun update on the powder room located on the ground floor of the house. A mood board was used to play with various ideas and themes for the room. The final design decision was to go with a an elegant theme with floral wallpaper and gold accent pieces. Although everything on the mood board did not make it into the end result, much of the ideas initially thought of did.
Project Blog:
This was a simple powder room makeover. The original design of the room had been light grey walls with two black floating shelves . The décor had an oriental theme to it. A mood board was created to provide an inspiration for the design idea for the room.
White ceramic tile was added to the walls starting at the floor and stopping a little over half way up. Wallpaper was installed above the tile. A beautiful floral print with teal, white, and grey was chosen to give it a soft feminine feel that also emitted an elegant and glamorous look-the find of this paper was the ultimate inspiration for the room. The bathroom was decorated with gold accent pieces including a gold and silver filigree mirror above the sink and a white and gold triangular shelf unit above the toilet. A black and white light was placed over the sink. Pink was used for a little contrasting color with the addition of pink flowers and a pink hand towel.
Stores shopped for this reimagination were Target (towels and accent pieces), TJ MAXX (shelf unit), Lowes (mirror, light and tiles), and Hobby Lobby (accent pieces).
Kitchen
March 2021
This project involved transforming a kitchen that did not involve the cost of replacing cabinets or appliances but replacing the green laminate countertops with granite. The kitchen had basically the same look that it had when the family moved into the house back in 2002 and they wanted an updated look. The semi-open spaced concept plan of this house has a living room that flows into the kitchen. The goal of this reimagination was to have the design of the kitchen mesh with the current design of the living room and to lighten and brighten the room. The kitchen had cherry finished cabinets, green laminate countertops, mosaic glass tile backsplash and a contractor style "California" overhead kitchen light. There are two pendant lights with white glass covers over the extended counter.

For this project, I wanted to really brighten the room as well as bring in the modern farmhouse design from the connecting living room for a more cohesive look. The room faces south and gets a good deal of natural light throughout the day through the kitchen window over the sink and the large double glass patio doors on the other side of the countertop in the eat in dining room. The kitchen walls were painted Sherwin Williams Alabaster White, a creamy shade of white that was very similar to the previous wall color. The dark cherry finished wood cabinets were painted bright white and the existing silver cabinet knobs were spray painted matte black and reapplied to the cabinet doors. For the cabinet drawers, black farmhouse style pulls were purchased and installed. The glass mosaic tile backsplash was removed and replaced with matte white tin backsplash panels in a raised continuing pattern. A plant shelf was added over the sink on the window between the two cabinets. The green laminate countertop removed and was replaced with a black and white granite countertop and the sink was replaced with a stainless steel restaurant grade single bowl. A black pull out kitchen faucet replaced the previous stainless steel one. For the lighting, new undercabinet task lighting was added and the contractor style "California" florescent overhead light was replaced with a rustic farmhouse overhead light. Green accent colors were incorporated in the room through the use of adding plants on top of the cabinets and two boxwood wreaths were added to the glass cabinet doors.
As you can see, color was the big game changer in this room. By just changing up the colors-painting the dark cabinets white and replacing the green countertops with the black and white, the room appears brighter and larger. It now has a more crisp and clean look.
Stores shopped for this reimagination were Marshalls (accessories), Etsy (boxwood wreaths), Home Depot (cabinet paint), Wise Stone Choice-Fort Wayne, IN (countertops), Menards (paint, supplies, and cabinet pulls), Lowes (sink and faucet), American Tin Ceilings (backsplash), and Amazon (breadbox, knife holder, and rug).
Living Room
January 2021
The challenge in this room was to give the room a refresh and new look, but without the cost of replacing most of the furniture that was already in the room. The customer still wanted a bold print on the focal wall and liked the idea of still using a black and white color pallet. The walls had been painted a soft grey color.

For this project, the gray walls were painted Sherwin Williams Alabaster paint with a flat finish, a shade of white with cream undertones. With the amount of natural southern exposure light, the white shade reflects the light and gives the room a lighter and brighter feeling and the illusion of a larger space. All trim work was painted with Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace in semi gloss paint. A few of the existing black accent pieces of furniture in the room were replaced with several light wood tones. The black cube bookcase was replaced with a light wood bookcase in a similar design. The small square black end table was replaced with a wood and black metal legged high round table and the black ottoman that served as a coffee table was replaced with a similar design to the new end table. A design idea we embrace, bringing the outside into the inside of the room, a large fern was placed on a metal legged plant stand and additional greenery in a clay pot was added to the corner bookcase. The black and white graphic printed wallpaper was replaced with a peel and stick large checked buffalo plaid wallpaper. This wall is the focal point in the room and where the eye is drawn to upon entering it. Pops of yellow accent items as well as a few of the black and white checked print were placed throughout the room to tie everything together. On the floor, the single light gray throw rug was replaced with three layered rugs with shades of cream, beige, and black. The layering of the rugs created a more cohesive flow from the entrance of the room to the focal point in the room.
Stores shopped for this reimagination were Amazon (bookcase, cellular blinds, pillows), (black storage unit), Wayfair (chaise, coffee table, wallpaper), Target (side table and accessories), Hobby Lobby (buffalo plaid throw), and Marshalls (beige throw and accessories), Lowes (paint).
Master Bathroom
March 2021
This master bathroom had needed a complete change. It had previously been painted with blue walls and had a dark cherry finished vanity, a beige and white marble counter/sink, and had a empty spot next to the vanity. The floor was still the off white roll out linoleum from when the house had been built in 2002.
The challenge on this project was going to find something to fit into the empty spot, in addition to the perfect size, it had to be elevated so that it didn't sit on top of the register on the floor. The homeowners did not want to replace the vanity or the countertop/sink, but did want to replace the floor.

Project Blog:
This was a really fun project and I wanted to give it a coastal vibe, something peaceful and relaxing. First, the walls were painted white with Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace in a flat finish and the trim was painted in the same color but with a semi-gloss finish. This is a really great white that I love to use throughout a house and I like to paint my walls and trim the same color when I am using white. This gives it just a subtle difference between wall and trim. The bathroom had a white tile installed along the surround of the spa tub with a blue mosaic tile trim. I really like how the tile is really defined and stands out between the white walls and the white tiles. Since replacing the vanity was not an option due to budget, I chose to paint the existing vanity a beautiful cool blue that complimented the mosaic tile. I went with Behr Dew Pointe cabinet and trim paint, which I find to be one of the best cabinet paints because it goes on nice and smooth and it levels itself while it is drying. No need to buy new hardware for the vanity! I removed them from the cabinet and spray painted them gold and then reapplied. The off white linoleum flooring was replaced with peel and stick luxury vinyl tile planks in Beachcomber. With the measurements of the empty wall space next to the vanity in hand, I looked for several weeks for the perfect item to put there. I had looked at linen cabinets, woven hampers, shelf units and finally found the perfect thing! I found the Sauder Trestle 5 shelf bookcase in the perfect measurements and the perfect color. I added some sea grass baskets for storage and some beachy accessories. For the wall above the toilet, often a neglected area, I added wood floating shelves that I supported with black metal decorative brackets. A few more accessories for the shelves as well as a few baskets for storage. Next to the tub, I found a round wood storage shelf that I decorated with kitchen storage jars and white wash clothes rolled up. On the opposite wall, a black towel bar was added and a coast print was placed above it. To finish the room, I found the perfect large mirror (at Walmart!) and a decorative clock. New lights gave it that finishing touch.
Stores shopped for this reimagination were Amazon (bookcase, towel bars), Target (coastal print, towels), Hobby Lobby (round shelf, accessories), Overstock (light), Menards (clock), Marshalls and TJ Maxx (baskets, accessories), Home Depot (paint and floor), and Do It Best (paint).
